Beginner training plan
Your first trainingDuring the first lesson you will learn the most fundamental aspects of the sport which includes:
- dribbling (using the inside, outside, and bottom of the foot)
- passing technique
- trapping technique
- shooting technique
Before getting started with a ball, I will introduce some footwork drills to help the player get used to moving like a soccer player. These might be:
- ladder drills
- agility training involving multiple directions of movement
Next we will progress to dribbling drills which might include:
- dribbling with the head up
- inside/outside dribbling
- dribbling with left and right foot with change of pace
- sole rolls
After addressing dribbling we will move on to passing and trapping which might include:
- basic two-touch passing
- progression to one-touch passing
Lastly we will finish with some shooting on goal.
Training 2-3Lessons 2-3 will focus on building your athleticism and ball control through more dribbling and footwork practice.
We will also begin to emphasize improvement of your “first touch” (first contact with the ball) which is essential for setting yourself up for success.
Drills may include:
- agility ladder with intermittent passes
- cone weaving with rapid change of pace and use of both legs
- pass and move laterally and backwards
These lessons will finish with more shooting on goal.
Training 4-10As you begin to enhance your skills and get more comfortable on the ball, we will start to add in more dynamic and reactionary drills to challenge you and build on what we’ve learned so far.
Some drills might include:
- dribbling with call outs of direction
- pass and move around cones
- passing and receiving with change of direction
- passing and moving with shooting
- dribbling with a skill move and shot
