Getting your Google listing to rank
A parent standing at the courts on a Saturday morning types "tennis lessons near me" into her phone. Google shows her a map with three pins and three phone numbers. If you are not one of the pins, she calls someone else, and she never sees your website. Here is what puts you on that map, in the order that works.

What the map pack is looking for
The three businesses on the map are chosen from Google Business Profiles, not from websites. Google wants a verified profile, recent reviews, and the same name, service area, and phone number everywhere it looks. It does not need a storefront. A coach lists as a service-area business and shows the towns they travel to instead of a street address.
Noelle K., a pickleball coach in Laguna Beach, put it this way after her seven directory listings went live: "The Google listing was the whole thing. Once the map pin was up with reviews on it, I stopped explaining who I was." She is on a pace of $8,500 a month, and the profile did most of the introducing.
Get a profile you own and finish verification
In Business Listings, the Google Business card has a Set it up for me button. It shows you the name, sport, and service area pulled from your profile, asks you to authorize the setup, and then hands you whatever verification Google offers for your area. Google can take up to five business days to review a completed verification, and if it mails a postcard, add the mailing time.
One warning. If a Google listing for you already exists, do not create a second one. Duplicates hurt both. Use Already have one? Connect it, paste the link, and CoachGrow keeps that listing consistent and pointed at your booking page.
Reviews, then consistency
Once the profile is live, reviews are the fastest lever, because they move your position and your conversion at the same time. The Reviews page has an Ask students now button. Tick up to ten students who completed a paid lesson, read the message, and send. Each student gets your Google review link with their first name on it, and anyone you asked recently is left out so nobody hears from you twice.
Ask everyone you have coached rather than the students you expect to gush, never trade a discount for a review, and answer every review that comes in, including the two-word ones. An active profile reads as a real business.
Next, make every listing agree. Bing Places is free with your Google profile, and Yelp, Facebook, Nextdoor, Trustpilot, and Yellow Pages each get a guided setup from one form. Claim your Yelp page yourself with the assistant. Claiming is free, and you never need to buy Yelp ads to keep it.
Publish one page a week about where you teach
Your Coach Site blog is the part that keeps compounding after the listings are done. Each post is a page that is only about you, so it can rank for what a student actually types: "beginner golf lessons in Columbus", or a question about the first lesson. CoachGrow drafts up to five posts a month from your reviews, prices, and locations, and a Weekly blog card on your Grow home nags you gently when a Monday-to-Sunday week goes by without one.
Write the way a local player searches. Name the city, name the sport, and use words like beginner and junior where they fit. Search traffic usually shows up after two to three months of steady posting, not two weeks.
Read the scoreboard weekly
The Google Maps tab in Rankings tells you whether you are in the local pack and who is there instead, with a next-step card that opens the exact fix. Local rankings move over weeks, and no single step guarantees a position, so fix one verified gap, wait a week, and look again.

Common questions
How long until my listing shows up?+−
Google can take up to five business days to review a completed verification, and postcard delivery adds time on top. Business Listings shows the status of every directory while you wait.
Does my own domain help me rank?+−
Not on its own. A domain you own looks professional and puts your name in the address bar. Rankings move on reviews, a complete profile, consistent details, and pages worth reading.
I already have a Yelp page. Do I lose it?+−
No. Connect the one you have and CoachGrow keeps it consistent with your other listings and points it at your booking page. You can revoke that access whenever you like.
