Promote something with a date on it
A clinic makes the best first ad because it has a date, a price, and a set number of spots. That gives the ad a reason to act now and gives you a result you can read in a week. An ad for your private lessons works too, but the numbers take longer to mean anything.
Reach people who can drive to your court
Keep the radius tight around where you teach. About fifteen miles is a sensible start for lessons and clinics. A national audience will admire your ad and never book, because they live in Ohio. The exception is an online course, which sells anywhere.
Spend enough to learn, then wait a full week
Fifteen dollars a day for seven days is enough for a local ad to show you something real. Less than that and Meta does not have enough data to find your audience.
Then leave it alone for the week. Meta spends the first few days testing your headlines and images and shifting money toward the ones that work, so day two looks worse than the ad will end up. Judging it on Tuesday is the most common way to kill a campaign that was about to work.
Write the ad from your reviews
Use a real photo of you coaching, not stock. Put the offer, the place, and the price in the headline, such as "Beginner pickleball clinic in Carlsbad, Saturday, $45". Borrow a line from a real review for the text. Give Meta two or three versions of the headline and image so it has something to choose between.
Send the click to a page where the student can book and pay on the spot. A boosted post that sends people to your profile asks them to do three more steps, and most will not.
Judge it in students, not likes
At the end of the week, divide what you spent by the number of new students it brought. Then work out what a new student is worth to you over a year, including the package they buy in month three. If the cost per student is well under that, run it again. If not, change one thing, usually the offer, and try another week.
Answer every inquiry the ad brings within minutes. From the moment someone messages you, the ad is only as good as your reply time.
